Cast 2007

Tango's Violin is the story of a
woman who discovers tango through her love of playing the
violin. She falls in love with a man who she adores dancing
with, but he breaks her heart. Her life unfolds as a tango
song's lyrics; full of passion, anguish, deception and jealousy.
In his absence, her violin becomes the metaphor for the
man. For in the world of tango, it's all about the man.
Once she was led by the man in dance and life, now her violin
takes the lead. In its first season at The Famous Spiegeltent
in Melbourne, Tango's Violin, sold out a month in advance
and has been invited to return for a longer season. In 2007,
the show toured to Perth for a 5 show season which sold
out 2 weeks in advance and prior to all media publicity
campaigns.
The cast of Tango's Violin was founded in 2005 by the accomplished
Melbourne-born musician, Sophie Kesoglidis. Beginning her
career as a classical viola player, Kesoglidis has worked
with many professional orchestras including MSO, TSO, and
ASO and was a permanent member of WASO from 2002 - 2007.
She completed a Masters degree at Melbourne University and
undertook further studies in Holland. She has toured internationally
with various orchestras, acted and played in Coda, Looking
through a Glass Onion and has undertaken short course training
at NIDA. As her debut as a writer, producer and director,
Tango's Violin expresses her genuine love of tango music
and dancing within a dramatic context.

"One man. Two women.
The romance of a violin. The passion of tango.
And so the scene is set for Tango's Violin, a musical tale
exploring the lure of Argentina's most seductive cultural
export. Perth musician, Sophie Kesoglidis ( a classically
trained violinist who has fallen under tango's spell) shapes
her debut production around the sensuality and strong emotions
that characterise tango in both sung and danced forms.
Kesoglidis' four-piece band, red dash black, provides the
soundtrack to the story, which takes place in a typical
Argentinian milonga (tango nightclub). Melbourne vocalist
Yvette Johansson plays the milonga's songstress, while Fabio
Robles and Ana Andre (2005 Australian tango dance champions)
sculpt the music into slinky moves on the dance floor."
