From the creator of the sell
out show, Tango's Violin, comes the comical show about a string
quartet, Unstrung Heroes. This show was commissioned by His Majesty's
Theatre, Perth to open the 2007 Cabaret Soiree Series at Downstairs
at the Maj, where it was premiered in March 2007, followed by
a Melbourne show at The Famous Spiegeltent in December 2007. Featuring
Australia's funkiest string quartet, alto, Unstrung Heroes includes
hits such as Smoke on the Water, Bohemian Rhapsody, Eleanor Rigby,
movies themes and love songs.
Sophie Kesoglidis, as presenter, leaves audiences begging for
more, as she amuses with quirky anecdotes and reveals trivia about
the songs and bands on the programme. She also wrote, directed
and produced the show which is a combination of light entertainment
and great musicianship. Unstrung Heroes is all about great music,
hilarity and surprises one never thought possible. It's about
obliterating the word conservative and simply enjoying a variety
of good music performed at professional level.
The cast consists of Alto - a string
quartet (2 violins, viola, cello) performed live to air on ABC720
Perth in March 2007. Unstrung Heroes is led by Lena MacKenzie
(violin), and, at times by Sophie Kesoglidis who alternates between
violin, viola and piano as the repertoire dictates. All musicians
have performed with professional state symphony orchestras and
worked regularly in chamber music.
The repertoire ranges from opera to rock, classical to folk music.
This includes Hava Nagilah, Czardas, O Sole Mio, Shostakovich
Waltz, Moon River, and much more.
